What changed?
HMRC’s free joint service for filing company accounts and a Company Tax Return closed on 31 March 2026. Where a Company Tax Return (CT600) is required, the normal online route is now commercial software; paper returns are limited to cases such as a reasonable excuse or filing in Welsh. HMRC explains the replacement filing routes .
Companies House still accepts annual accounts through its online services for now. From 1 April 2028, its web and paper accounts services will close and companies must use commercial software to file accounts in iXBRL format. Other web services, such as filing confirmation statements and director changes, will remain available. There will be no transition period. Check the Companies House timetable .
This guide covers only the limited company’s statutory accounts and Corporation Tax return. A director’s personal Self Assessment is separate.
Ten options to compare
This is a neutral comparison, not a ranking. Some products prepare and submit both filings, some combine bookkeeping with year-end work, and others focus on the HMRC return. Prices below are published prices checked on 17 October 2026. Confirm VAT, renewal terms, filing limits and eligibility with the supplier before buying.
HMRC’s commercial Corporation Tax software supplier list shows which providers say they can submit CT600 returns, handle iXBRL and support self-filers. HMRC accepts returns filed using listed products, but does not endorse or recommend one supplier over another.

Which type should you choose?
You have prepared figures and want one fee for both filings: compare SimpleCompanyTax, Taxley, OneFiler, Tax Optimiser and TinyTax. They differ in pricing model, supported accounts formats and company eligibility, so check the table against your circumstances.
You want bookkeeping and filing in one place: Zoho Books combines bookkeeping with a £5/year CT600 and Final Accounts add-on on its free plan, for eligible micro-entities. FreeAgent combines bookkeeping and year-end filing in a paid subscription, with a free option for eligible bank customers.
You need more than basic micro-entity accounts: compare the accounts formats and tax schedules in TaxCalc and Easy Digital Filing. #GoFile and other CT600-focused products may require separate Companies House filing.
You already have bookkeeping software: check whether its figures export cleanly to a filing tool. Integrated filing can reduce re-keying, but may be limited to particular company types or accounts formats.
Before you file
- Complete and reconcile the bookkeeping, including the director’s loan account, payroll, VAT, stock, assets, accruals, and amounts owed to or by the company.
- Confirm whether the company qualifies for micro-entity accounts and whether the product supports its company type and accounting period.
- Reconcile the accounts sent to Companies House with the accounts and computation attached to the CT600. They are separate filings, even when the software submits both.
- Review the accounts, tax computation and CT600 before authorising submission. Keep the documents, filing acknowledgements and receipts.
- Check filing and payment deadlines with Companies House and HMRC. Software does not extend a deadline or remove a late-filing penalty.
DIY filing tends to suit companies with straightforward records and an owner who understands the figures. If the company has complex transactions, uncertain tax treatment, group relationships, share changes, losses or claims you do not understand, ask a qualified accountant to prepare or review the work.
Companies House also has a software list for filing company accounts . A listing describes supported filing capability; check the provider’s terms and supported company types before deciding.
